2025 marks 80 years of Book Week. This year’s Book Week theme, ‘Book an Adventure’, invites kids to dive into stories and set off on inspiring, page-turning adventures.


Inspired by this year’s theme of adventure, I asked the CostumeBox team to share the journeys they’d love to take - real and imagined, along with some fantastic Book Week costume recommendations.

If you were attending Book Week, what character would you pick?

I think Dorothy, if only to wear those ruby red slippers.


What do you predict the top three selling costumes will be?

Safari Suits, Pirates and Alice in Wonderland.


What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of “Book an Adventure?”

I think of heading off to Africa on Safari, a bucket list item for me.


What’s one fictional place you wish was real so you could go adventuring there?

Willy Wonkas Chocolate Factory! I have a wicked sweet tooth.


Where is your ultimate reading spot?

Under a tree, anywhere.

I am about to start reading "Remarkably Bright Creatures" by Shelby Van Pelt. I've read such great reviews I can't wait to start.

If you were attending Book Week, what character would you pick?

Ernest Shackleton, the Antarctica Explorer - an incredible adventurer and leader!


What do you predict the top three selling costumes will be?

Any Safari costume; the safari shirt and shorts instantly conjures wild adventures! Harry Potter; so many adventures in the Harry Potter books. Alice In Wonderland; the quintessential adventure.


What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of “Book an Adventure?”

Mountain trekking.


What’s one fictional place you wish was real so you could go adventuring there?

I'd like to time travel to ancient Egypt (I'd consider this fictional because at this point in time we can't go back there!)


Where is your ultimate reading spot?

In a hammock, under a palm tree, gentle warm breeze!

I've just finished The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley (a great story about characters from the past being expatriated into the future).

Booking a place near some mountains for hiking/exploring.

Middle Earth.

Sipping fruity drinks on an island beach somewhere!


What’s one fictional place you wish was real so you could go adventuring there?

Neverland!

A window nook, preferably on a rainy day.

I've been reading my toddler lots of dinosaur books lately, so I would probably go as a dinosaur!


What do you predict the top three selling costumes will be?

Potentially Snow White (due to recent movie release), pirate costumes (sea adventures), safari/animal costumes (jungle adventures).


What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of “Book an Adventure?”

Travel packages with all inclusive food and stress-free itinerary all planned out for you.


What’s one fictional place you wish was real so you could go adventuring there?

Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory. How delicious!

My comfy bed.

I'd be the Mad Hatter, lots of different costume choices and I love wearing bold colours.

For themes, I think Pirates, Safari / Animals and Alice in Wonderland.

'Pirates' was my first thought when hearing the theme this year.
