The pandemic-riddled years of 2020 and 2021 have seen us miss out on some pretty big life events that would normally call for large parties and celebrations. All this missing out has made us more eager than ever to celebrate anything and everything - enter the ‘Altbash’. Altbashes are any cause for celebration outside the traditional occasions and are predicted to be one of the biggest trends this year according to Pinterest, and we’re ready to get behind this trend. These are some of our previously uncelebrated little life moments we think deserve a party (or at least some cake!) in 2022.

1. Dog's Birthday

Now, while most people don’t usually celebrate their dog’s birthday, for me, my dog Wilson’s birthday is arguably a more exciting date than my own birthday. We always go for a long walk, put on some party hats and buy him a cake, as after all he is part of the family. So if you are not already celebrating it, your dog's birthday might be a great place to start your altbash celebrations. Invite your friends and their dogs around and get ready to pawty!

2. Quitting Your Job

Quitting your job could mean a huge weight off your shoulders or the start of a new chapter in life, therefore warranting another reason to celebrate. Get your friends or family together, order a custom cake and celebrate your career change in style.

3. A Breakup

Breakups are often the opposite of celebrated, and altbashes are here to change that. Best friend just broken up with their partner you secretly hated? Just called off a relationship you felt was no longer right for you? Then why not celebrate! Celebrate a new chapter in life and a new start to love.

4. Pet Adoption Party

Perhaps one of the cutest themes we’ve seen along the lines of the altbash trend is the ‘pet adoption party’ which is a celebration to welcome your new furbaby into the family. Think paw-shaped cookies, it’s a boy/girl banners, photo collages and more. Guaranteed to be adorable, why not celebrate this new moment in both yours and your new pet's life.

5. Empty Nesters Party

Has your last child finally flown the nest? Perhaps staying a little longer than you planned. Well, you guessed it, an altbash party is calling. Going back to your living situation before kids can be a big change in life. Therefore, it should be a moment to throw a party with your friends and family and toast to new beginnings, new found freedom (and new found peace and quiet).

Throwing an altbash party is a great way to celebrate all of life’s ups and downs, no matter how big or small. With these suggestions, we hope we have given you some new-found occasions to celebrate.
