If you’re dreaming of a white Christmas, these traditional Christmas cocktails might be the closest you’ll get this year. So put on the Christmas carols and pretend the snow is falling with these traditional Christmas cocktails that’ll be sure to get you feeling merry and bright.

1. Gingerbread Martini

Nothing screams Christmas like a gingerbread man, and this recipe combines them with everyone's favourite ingredients: caramel and Baileys. Recipe from Taste.

Ingredients (Serves 2):

  • ¼ cup caramel sauce, plus extra to serve
  • ¼ tsp mixed spice
  • ¼ tsp ground ginger
  • 6 ice cubes
  • ½ cup thickened cream
  • ¼ cup vodka
  • 1 Tbsp Baileys Irish cream liqueur
  • Whipped cream, to serve
  • Small gingerbread men, whole and crushed, to serve.

Method:

1. Combine caramel sauce, mixed spice and ginger in a small jug.

2. Place ice cubes, cream, caramel mixture, vodka and Baileys into a cocktail shaker. Secure lid and shake well to combine.

  • 1 tsp honey
  • ¾ cup coffee liqueur (such as Kahlua)

3. Classic Eggnog

Last but not least is a Christmas classic, Eggnog. What is Eggnog you ask? It’s a mix of beaten egg yolks, cream and often some whiskey or rum to make it boozy. Recipe from Delish.

Ingredients: (serves 4-5)

  • 2 cups milk
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon, plus more for garnish
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ½ tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 6 Large egg yolks
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup bourbon or rum (optional)
  • Whipped cream, for serving

Method:

1. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine milk, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla and slowly bring mixture to low boil.

2. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, whisk egg yolks with sugar until yolks are pale in colour. Slowly add hot milk mixture to egg yolks in batches to temper the eggs and whisk until combined.

3. Return mixture to saucepan and cook over medium heat until slightly thick (and coats the back of a spoon) but does not boil. (If using a candy thermometer, the mixture should reach 160 degrees).

4. Remove from heat and stir in heavy cream and bourbon (if using). Refrigerate until chilled.

5. When ready to serve, garnish with whipped cream and cinnamon.
