Marvel Madness: The Story Behind Captain Marvel Pop Vinyls [2019]

Author Jasmin / Culture / Published: 18/7/2020

Do your kids bang on about the Captain Marvel Pop Vinyls? Are you left wondering what’s going on in the world? Just what are Pop Vinyls anyway?

Well, Pop Vinyls are small toy figures with big heads that have suddenly started to dominate the collectables market. There are Marvel Pop Vinyl, Star Wars Pop Vinyl, Big Bang Theory, The Simpsons, My Little Pony, Batman, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones Pop Vinyl, and the list goes on.

Where did All This Pop Vinyl Come From?

It all started back in 1998 when Funko was founded by a toy enthusiast named Mike Becker who started to create themed toys, called bobble heads. With some small success, the company was bought out by Brian Mariotti in 2005 who was a serious collector with lots of enthusiasm for the characters.

Mariotti created four figures of DC Comic characters and took them to the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con, but since they didn’t bobble, they didn’t take off initially. Already possessing three big licences (DC, Marvel and Star Wars), Mariotti forged ahead and purchased 25 more licences, pushed production of the comic-book characters, which suddenly took off and the rest is history!

Whether you are into movies, comic books, video games or even TV shows, there is a Funko pop vinyl for you (Funko are the creators of these toys). Some of the rarest Funko figurines sell for more than $2000 AUD, specifically the Headless Ned Stark from Game of Thrones, Harley Quinn from Batman and Alex from A Clockwork Orange! For a toy that usually sells for $20 or less, Pop Vinyl might become the new investment ploy for your retirement!

How many Marvel Pop Vinyls Are There?

Apparently, there are more than 3000 of these unique pop vinyl figurines, but how many marvel Pop Vinyls are there? Well, the first Marvel Pop Vinyl was created by Funko in 2011 and since then, there have been more than 500 individual figures released, but this number continues to rise quickly, due to the release of more Marvel movies and Pop Vinyls.

Each movie franchise has multiple characters, so you can find numerous collections of Marvel Pop Vinyl: Incredible Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Guardians of the Galaxy, Antman, Doctor Strange, Spider-man, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Avengers, and plenty more. Who knew there were so many Marvel characters!

Why Is The Captain Marvel Pop Vinyl So Popular?

Since Funko Pop figures do not move, they aren’t all that popular with children, but they are seen as collectables by adults. Recognising their popularity with adults, Funko continues to release new figurines, particularly limited editions for the avid collector.

Maybe these figurines are so popular because there is something for everyone. The Funko team have a knack for identifying which characters will be popular with their customers.

With their big round eyes and oversized heads, the Captain Marvel Pop Vinyl characters are not only unique, they are also very cute and very collectable!

Where Can You Purchase Marvel Pop Vinyl?

You can purchase Marvel figurines from mainline stores, such as Target, JB Hi-Fi, Hobby Warehouse, and plenty of online stores. However, many limited editions are only sold at conventions, so for most people, online stores are the best option. Looking for Marvel costumes for your next party?
