5 Best Horror Movie Villain Costume Ideas For Halloween [2019]

Author Gonzalo / Posts / Published: 10/11/2019

Are you wracking your brains for a really unique Halloween costume? Well if you want a costume that is bone-chillingly scary, how about checking out some of our movie villain costume ideas this Halloween? Movie villains are the characters we love to hate and some of them have become the most iconic movie characters of all time.

It makes perfect sense to bring out your inner movie villain this Halloween, because after all, Halloween is the time that ghosts and ghouls walk the earth, killing people and stealing their souls! There have to be at least two or three nasty, loathsome, sickening and vicious characters that are so cold-blooded and frightening that they make you shudder just to think of them!

So if are ready to consider a few hair-raising movie villain costumes for your Halloween party, here are our top five ideas!

1. Hannibal Lecter costume

Dr Hannibal Lecter was a respected forensic psychiatrist in a series of suspense novels written by Thomas Harris. The most sensational and iconic of these movies was “Silence of the Lambs”, released in 1991 – instantly creating a whole generation of people who were scared to death of Hannibal Lecter. The problem was that he was also a cannibalistic serial killer, but fortunately for him, after his incarceration, he began to help the FBI to track down other serial killers. Lecter must be one of the most blood-curdling villain Halloween costume ideas ever!

One of Lecter’s most chilling outfits is when he is forced to wear a half-mask, leaving his eyes-free, but with a grill over his mouth to stop him spitting and biting people. So if you can get your hands on one of these masks and a straitjacket – you have the perfect Hannibal Lecter costume! Of course, if you strap yourself to an upright trolley and have your friends roll you around, it gets even better! If you can’t find a straitjacket, however, then an orange jumpsuit that resembles a prion outfit will do, but you can’t get away without the facemask – sorry!

2. Joker costume

The Joker is a supervillain in the Batman movies and DC Comics who started out as a petty criminal that fell into a vat of chemicals to escape Batman. This escapade led to his disfigurement and his hatred of Batman, and his warped and sadistic sense of humour. He is a criminal mastermind, but with no superpowers, relies on his expertise in chemical engineering to develop a swath of killer concoctions and weaponry in the hope of taking down his nemesis, Batman.

For your Joker costume, you have a number of colour options, but the basic outfit will be the same. The most popular colours for a Joker outfit are purple or red with splashes of green, yellow or orange, so you can choose whatever colour combination that floats your boat! You will also want a long knee-length coat or a short above-the-waist fitted jacket, along with trousers in the same colour. Add a collared shirt in a contrasting colour and black shiny shoes covered in spats and you are nearly there! The final touch is the Joker’s face which requires white face paint, black eyes and obscene red lips, giving you one of the most iconic villain costume ideas for this Halloween!

3. Darth Vader costume

Darth Vader started out as Anakin Skywalker who had the potential to become one of the most powerful Jedi and was prophesied to bring balance to the Force. That was, however until he was lured to the dark side of the Force by a Sith Lord, called Palpatine. It wasn’t until he fought his former mentor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, where he was severely injured that he was turned into a cyborg, serving the Galactic Empire as Darth Vader. He is the secret father of both Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, but finally redeems himself when he sacrifices himself to save his son.

Since Darth Vader has been heralded as one of the greatest fictional characters of all time, a Darth Vader costume might be just the transformation you need this Halloween. You need black trousers, long-sleeved back t-shirt, black boots and a black cloak. On the chest of your t-shirt, you need to glue a 20 cm square piece of black material to represent your cyborg controls, gluing on additional red, white and blue squares or oblongs to mimic the control buttons or sensors. Two other essential pieces of your outfit include the lightsabre and Darth Vader’s helmet, both of which you can source online.

4. Lord Voldemort costume

Lord Voldemort is the evil wizard dedicated to ridding the Wizard World of Muggles (anyone who lacks magical ability) and establishing himself as the supreme leader of both worlds (magical and non-magical). Voldemort is an arch-enemy of Harry Potter because he knows that Potter has the ability to vanquish him.

Lord Voldemort is one of the scariest movie villain costumes in the past few years, so for your costume you need a long black cloak that fastens up the front so that it completely covers your body. You also need a magic wand, but the most difficult part is going to be Voldemort’s head! You can either buy a full head mask online or shave your head, paint everything from your neck up white and flatten your nose!

5. Terminator costume

Remember the 1984 Terminator movie? Played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Terminator was one of the scariest and most ruthless villains of the 80’s. He was relentless in his pursuit of Sarah Conner, who will become the mother of John Conner, the boy who will lead the fight against Skynet in the near future. Even though the Terminator turned into a good guy in the later movies, he is still a pretty scary character that no-one wants hunting them down!

For your Terminator costume, you need black drainpipe trousers, black leather jacket with a zipper front, white t-shirt, ammunition belt over your shoulder, shotgun and black glasses. You could also add some gory makeup to your face to look like you have been in an accident, but it’s not necessary.
